Many times when consumers have gone to the big retail chains, or to the big refacing companies, they really don’t realize that they can have a complete custom kitchen built, generally for less than what those companies charge. We try to educate the consumer, so you can make sure you’re getting complete costs for everything from start to finish without any hidden costs. Hidden costs are generally what some companies will use to bid a project low and then hit the customer with changes within the job to increase the price of the contract. It’s something the big retail chains don’t really want you to know. Remember, there are 3 very important things to know before entering into a remodeling contract. First, check with the Contractors State License Board online or by phone to make sure the person you hire has a valid Contractors License. Second, make sure the company you hire is bonded and has insurance. And if they are hiring subcontractors, that they have a license and insurance, too. It’s important to know that the people entering your home are covered, in the event something happens to one of them, so they aren’t going after your homeowners insurance. Third, Make sure the people entering your home are employees of the company you’ve hired. Many companies subcontract the cabinets or countertops to be fabricated and installed by someone else. If they give you a brochure to pick your cabinets and also your cabinet doors, that’s usually a sign that things are being subcontracted.
